Vintage Adoption Agency Policies

So you want to 'adopt' something you've seen on the Vintage Adoption Agency?  Thaaaat's Grrrreat!

If you didn't already read what it's about, the Vintage Adoption Agency is my therapeutic way of downsizing my vintage collection.  I'm kind of attached to the things I'm offering but knowing that they're going to be placed with stylish new owners that will love them just as much as I do makes the whole process a lot easier.

My hope is that I'm doing more than just selling something and never seeing it again; I want to be reassured that another vintage enthusiast is going to appreciate it!  For some of these items that might entail answering seemingly random questions about how you intend to wear the article or why you think you can provide the perfect home.  The questions will probably vary but I offer a hint: stay genuine and get creative!  If we agree you're the best placement, I'll send the details you need to complete the PayPal transaction and lovingly send you your bundle of vintage joy.

Once I know you've received it, safe and sound, I expect you to love and cherish it as promised...and I'd love to see the evidence of that! Send in photos, stories, whatever, showing off your vintage adoption.  If you're okay with it, I'd love to share them on this blog, but if not, I still want to see proof; it'll put my mind at ease knowing that I did the right thing by sending it to someone else and keep me motivated to share more!

Boring (but important!) Details:

Payments: I only accept PayPal. It's legit!  It's safe and it's easy and it protects e'ryone.

Shipping: I ship everything using USPS Priority Mail and include delivery confirmation.  At this time I'm only shipping to the US and that price is reflected in the shipping costs. (I hear ya: 'What the hell, it's the World Wide Web! That's not fairrrr!' If you're interested in something, send me an e-mail and I'll look into it.)

Returns: I know e'ry vintage/small-sized/online seller hates (HATES!) dealing with returns.  At least I know I do.  Especially when some stupid buyer is like "Oh, gee, this looked a little less lime green on my monitor but in person it's too lime green. What can you do about this? This shade of lime green is absolutely horrifying in artificial light and I can't wear it during the day!  I think I was misled!" or "Yes, I see you provided very accurate measurements of the garment, however, you also said the material was somewhat stretchy but it's not stretchy enough and it still doesn't fit me!  How could you let this happen to me?" (Based on true stories.) BUT.  Like I said, I really want you to love your vintage adoption and actually use it.

If your house is on fire, your vintage adoption needs to be on the short list of Cherished Possessions I Need to Get Out of the Burning Building (assuming you're not already wearing it) and if it's not that caliber of love, you can return it.  If you get it in the mail and you're just not overwhelmed with happiness at the prospect of being the new owner, you can return it.  If you try it on and it isn't ALL you hoped for, a bag of potato chips, sunshine, lollipops, and rainbows, and MORE, you can return it.

If you plan to your return your vintage adoption...

  1. Let me know! Send me an e-mail so I know it didn't work out and can expect your package.
  2. Your returned adoption needs to be back in my possession within 30 days of when you received it.  Don't procrastinate on that.  A month is a long time.
  3. Adoption must be returned in the same condition in which it was received.  I know and you know that all of these items are vintage and have a certain degree of wear on them.  I carefully look each piece over and disclose any notable flaws (as in visible to the naked eye).  Items should have the same amount of flaws when I get it back.  If evidence suggests you did a lot more than just try-on the garment...makeup around the collar, smells like da club, etc. don't waste your time.  This ain't Rent the Runway.
  4.  Likewise, your vintage adoption must be returned in the same packaging.  It was carefully packaged when it was sent off to you, so don't send it back to me crumpled up in a trash bag.
  5. You're responsible for return shipping charges (and I highly recommend splurging on delivery confirmation and/or tracking).
  6. Be aware that there is a 3% restocking fee that will be subtracted from your refund.  (Yup. 3%. Not that much, really. I may have found some of this stuff for cheap but laundering, mending, photographing, describing, buying packing materials/packing it up and driving to the post office, is also a time commitment...and time is money...and now I have to repeat the process and find a new home for the item all over again.)
  7. Once returned adoption has been received, and meets the aforementioned criteria, I'll refund the purchase! Phew! (TL;DR You can return your adoption within 30 days if you change your mind but it will cost you return shipping plus a 3% restocking fee.)
